How to Make Money on YouTube with Google AdSense

You’ve created a YouTube channel. You’ve consistently uploaded quality videos. You’ve successfully engaged your audience… Now you’re starting to think that you might be able to make some money with your YouTube channel, but how? Where do you start? What’s the first step, and then what’s the next? Fortunately, with Google AdSense, you can actually make money on your YouTube videos without really doing much more than signing up.

What Is Google AdSense?

Google AdSense is a free service that allows you to monetize your YouTube channel and any or all of the videos on it. With this service, Google uses its platform to match relevant advertisements with your YouTube channel.

With older advertising models, you would have had to find and establish relationships with advertising companies and/or companies that wanted to advertise their products and services online. You’d have to spend a lot of time picking and choosing the right ads to place on your website or videos, and you’d be in charge of actually including the ads in the code for your site and/or editing them into your videos.

Thankfully, with Google AdSense, earning money through advertisements is much easier!

How Does Google AdSense Work for YouTube?

Basically, whenever one of your viewers clicks on an ad on your YouTube channel or on one of your videos, you get paid a specific amount of money. Advertisers bid on the video ad space that you and other YouTubers provide in your monetized accounts. The highest bidder gets their advertisement showcased in a banner ad or pre-roll video on your videos or in the sidebar on your YouTube channel.

When one of your viewers clicks on a video ad, the company or individual behind the advertisement is charged, and you get a share of the money they pay Google to showcase it.

How Do You Make Money With Google AdSense

While a single click on a YouTube video might only yield a few cents, those cents quickly add up when you have a lot of viewers engaging with the advertisements on your YouTube channel. The more people visit your YouTube channel and watch your videos, the more people will see those advertisements and potentially be interested in the products or services of those companies.

To make money with Google AdSense simply do everything you would ordinarily do to increase your fan base and engage with your audience. Some of these things, of course, are more directly effective than others, but they’re all important. For example, building a strong emotional bond and a relationship with your audience may not directly encourage them to click on the ads on your channel. However, it will build your audience and get those ads in front of more viewers, thereby increasing your chances of making money from AdSense.

More views will, almost inevitably, lead to more ad engagement, which will lead to more revenue for you.

Things to Avoid When Using Google AdSense

All that said, there are a few things that you should absolutely avoid when you monetize your YouTube channel with AdSense. First and foremost, do not click on your own ads to artificially inflate your earnings. Google will quickly determine that you’re acting fraudulently. You’ll then be banned from using AdSense, and you’ll lose a really good means of earning income with your YouTube channel.

Next, don’t ask your fans and viewers to click on the ads (or engage with them), either. This is against the terms of use and will also get your account in trouble. When you do this, you’re basically asking your fans to click on advertisements that they may have no interest in. The advertisers will then have to pay for ad campaigns that do them no good.

In general, just act ethically and do everything you would normally do to grow your fan base. Get engaged with your audience. Collaborate with other vloggers. Share your videos on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Google+, or LinkedIn. Focus on getting more YouTube viewers. Before you know it, you’ll be making a steady stream of income from your Y

What are the average CPM/CPC rates in India?

It’s impossible to know the average CPM / CPC rates in India without any information on targeting parameters, your process of buying media (direct, agency, network or DSP), the channels you want to buy (mobile or web), and whether you want to target specific audience segments from DMPs.

There are so many factors that drive CPM / CPC rates: categories, channel, ad placements and publishers, device, and many more.

And even if you simply want to target all the online audience in India without any other targeting parameters, the rates will still vary based on the placements, the agencies, networks, and platforms that you will use.

Example, GDN has more expensive rates than ad networks. And across hundreds of ad networks, they have different rate cards for India even for remnant traffic.

When you use a DSP like Bluagile, your CPM rates depend on how much you want to pay. The higher your max CPM bid, the more traffic you will get. Even bidding for traffic will not get you the exact CPM rates as they fluctuate daily based on supply and demand. Your CPC rates from DSPs will highly depend on the CTR of your creatives.

If you are curious to know, launch a campaign on Bluagile targeting India and set your max  CPM bid to $5 and let it run for 2 days. In two days, you will get insights as to how much people are paying for individual impression. Take note the rates fluctuate daily depending on the demand and supply.

Microsoft to buy LinkedIn for $26.2 billion; LNKD shares jump 47%

Microsoft announced a $26.2 billion deal on Monday to acquire professional social platform LinkedIn for $196 per share.
Shares of LinkedIn surged 47 percent after the announcement to near $193, while Microsoft’s stock was down 3.2 percent. Trading in Microsoft had been halted briefly for news pending before the announcement of the all-cash deal.
Moody’s Investors Service placed Microsoft’s “AAA” rating under review for downgrade following the deal announcement. Standard & Poor’s though, reaffirmed its “AAA” rating, and said it maintains all other ratings and a “stable outlook” on the company.
Jeff Weiner will stay on as CEO of LinkedIn and will report to Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella. The deal was unanimously approved by both companies’ boards, and is expected to close by the end of the year. The acquisition is still subject to approval by LinkedIn shareholders and regulators.
“The LinkedIn team has grown a fantastic business centered on connecting the world’s professionals,” Nadella said in a statement. “Together we can accelerate the growth of LinkedIn, as well as Microsoft Office 365 and Dynamics as we seek to empower every person and organization on the planet.”
In a statement to LinkedIn employees, Weiner said “little is expected to change” and employees will have the same titles and managers.
“The one exception: For those members of the team whose jobs are entirely focused on maintaining LinkedIn’s status as a publicly traded company, we’ll be helping you find your next play,” Weiner said. “In terms of everything else, it should be business as usual. We have the same mission and vision; we have the same culture and values; and I’m still the CEO of LinkedIn.”

How we increased our mobile ads income by 445%

We recently discovered how to radically increase our income from our mobile ads that were served by Google AdSense. As a result, we not only multiplied our mobile income, but a single mobile ad on our web app now also outranks the performance of all of the other banners like Skyscrapers or Superbanners on the desktop version of the same site. In this article I am not only going to reveal the basic trick, but also share the ideas behind it, including the tests we conducted and the steps we took to multiply our income from our mobile ads with simple pay per click optimization.
Update: AdSense and Sticky Ads
As Fedor pointed out in the comments, AdSense is now clearer in its terms of services stating that “fixed” or “sticky” ads are not permitted. I decided to neither remove nor change the content of this post for two reasons.
1. AdSense is still testing their own implementation of sticky ads, called “anchor ads”. Hopefully, every publisher can use this method without coding skills and worrying about the TOS in a few months. Moreover, as a beta tester, I can say: they seem to work great!
2. You might still want to use sticky ads with ads from other ad networks with click based payments. Just ask them if they will allow you to use sticky ads.

Why even bother with mobile ads?

There was a lot of noise about mobile in 2012, but I didn’t have to listen to understand the importance of a mobile web app. I just had to look into the web statistics of our word game site to see the enormous growth in traffic that we achieved from mobile devices. Now, on both our German and English versions, the number of unique visitors from mobile devices is higher than from any other device.
I didn’t really bother with web app advertising until the first significant increase of mobile users before the holiday season in December 2011. I would have thought the increase might have happened AFTER the holidays, but it actually did so BEFORE. The same happened in December 2012, and so there must be a reasonable explanation. I always had Facebook’s more or less failed IPO in mind that analysts also saw as a result of a bad performance of their mobile ads. Anyway, Facebook managed to significantly increase its income from mobile ads, and so I felt that I had to give it a more serious try. It took me until fall 2012 to come up with a solution to include ads depending on the browser width so that I would be technically able to serve mobile ads as well.
Mobile Ads or Mobile Banners are 320 x 50 px and are designed to fit most smartphones. Google AdSense recently included them in their “normal” ad portfolio, and so, technically, there is no reason not to use this kind of ads for your desktop site.

Responsive ads

As a website owner, you probably know about responsive design. This means that the size of your site is adapting to the width of each visitor’s browser. When done right, your site just magically fits into every browser and device. Anyway, for a web developer this is quite easy to set up. The hard part is for any publisher to put ads on such a page and optimize these “responsive ads” properly. We use our own sites as sandboxes for testing different optimization methods. Whether you visit the pages with your desktop browser, tablet, or smartphone, you will always see the same content, but with a responsive layout and responsive ads that fit into the available space.

understand your ADSENSE earnings AND estimated EARNINGS?

The reports in your AdSense account are intended to give you close estimates of the current activity in your account. However, these reports do not represent your finalized earnings. Many factors can affect the amount that is ultimately paid to you. Once earnings are finalized, they are posted to your “Payment history” page. Where appropriate and possible, any revenue found to be from invalid clicks or impressions is refunded back to the affected advertisers. If your account is disabled for invalid activity, then you won’t be able to receive payment and, where appropriate and possible, we’ll refund the revenue in the account to affected advertisers.

On the Home page of your account, we show the following information:

Estimated earnings: close estimates of your recent account activity from today, yesterday, this month so far, and last month
Finalized earnings: this section displays two levels of earnings:
“Current balance”, which is the current balance of your earnings that have not yet been paid out. This balance may not reflect the total amount of payment you receive. Google may make adjustments to the amount, including for rounding discrepancies, any invalid activity that needs to be adjusted from your earnings, or other month-end credits as necessary.
“Most recent payment”, which will reflect the payment you last received.
We may make adjustments to your estimated or finalized earnings to account for invalid impressions or clicks, which means that we may remove earnings from your payable balance. Invalid activity may be caused by issues with traffic sources or ad implementation. We recommend that you review the beginner’s guide and tips for preventing invalid activity for more information.

We reserve the right to adjust a publisher’s earnings in the case that an advertiser who advertised on their site defaults on payment.

To maintain the integrity of our invalid activity detection system and prevent users from circumventing the system, we aren’t able to provide details about how much was adjusted per day or per channel. Please know that we have these invalid activity protections in place to keep our network of AdSense sites a safe and useful environment for advertisers, publishers, and users.

How To Earn $100 A Day With Google AdSense???

Control Your Website
Add Revenue Streams
Get Traffic & Convert
Earning $100, $200 or even $300 per day with Google AdSense can be done from a home office. Many website owners are doing it. The only thing you need is planning, work, determination, and passion about your topic or niche.
Term Definitions
Before diving into the exact process, here’s some terminology for better understanding of Google AdSense.
AdSense: AdSense is when you place Google Ads on your website, and when a visitor from your website clicks on an ads, Google pays you 68% of what the advertiser pays them. It’s free to sign up.
CTR: Your ad Click-Through Rate is the number of ad clicks divided by the number of individual ad impressions. Suppose you are showing 3 AdSense ads on every page of your website, 1 page view is equal to 3 ad impressions.
CTR = Clicks / Ad Impressions X 100
Suppose, you get 5 clicks out of 500 ad impressions, your CTR would be 1% (5/500X100).
CPC: Cost Per Click is the revenue you earn each time a visitor clicks on your ad. CPC is determined by the advertisers. In some competitive niches like finance, marketing, online products etc. advertisers may be willing to pay more per click than others.
CPM: CPM means “Cost Per 1000 Impressions.”
Sometimes advertisers opt for CPM ads instead of CPC and set their price for 1000 ad impressions. And they pay each time their ads appear on any website.
What It Takes To Make $100 A Day With AdSense
When your CTR is 1% and your average CPC is $0.25. it’s quite achievable to make $100 dollars a day, and lots of people are doing it. Let’s assume that a Page View = An Ad Impression.
To make $100 everyday you need 40,000 Page Views/day Or, 400 Clicks a day @ 1% CTR and $0.25 CPC. For 40,000 Page Views you have to produce 500 awesome articles on your website. These pages must attract at least 80 or more page views everyday.

These articles can be as little as 300 words. Always include a YouTuble video on every article page you create. Many people writing a book, can simply write their book on their website and make money simply by writing it. You can also get your visitors to contribute their story ideas. This gets you free content and engages your followers.
Apart from CPC, you will also earn from your CPM ad impressions. Irrespective of any niche, the average CPM earning is $1 to $1.5 per 1,000 impressions. You can make $40 to $60 per day from 40,000 page views.
You can also sell your Ad space directly or via BuySellAds.com, and generate $6,000 Per Month on an average from 40,000 page views. Check out how webmasters are making $6,000 to $8,000 Per Month from BuySellAds with forty thousand page views per day. So your daily earning will be $200 (6000/30=200).
A niche website with high quality articles works well with affiliate marketing. You can might be able to earn $40 to $80/day from affiliate selling with correct implementation and execution.
Now your total earning per day is $100 + $40 + $200 +$40 = $380 from CPC, CPM, Direct Ad Sell, Affiliate Marketing for 40,000 page views per day. I’ve taken the lowest possible earnings from all the 4 sources.
$380 per day means $11,400 per month (380X30= 11,400) Or, $136,800 per year (11,400X12=136,800).
When deciding to be in the ‘Creating Content Business’ your desired earning of $100 per day from Google AdSense is achievable. 1,000s of people are making money by writing articles, and you can do it too, when you are Focused!

P.S. The above results can be possible if you produce at least 200 to 250 great articles or blog posts per year for 2 years. So how much traffic you actually need to make $100 per day from Google AdSense – It’s way less than 40,000 Page Views Per Day!

How to Start Affiliate Marketing as a Newbie Blogger

What is Affiliate Marketing?

Let’s start with the most basic of basic questions: what is affiliate marketing?

Simply put, affiliate marketing is a way for you (the affiliate) to earn a commission for recommending products or services to your friends or readers.

To simplify it, here’s the 4 step process for how it works:

You find a product you want to promote
You sign up for their affiliate program
You get a special link that allows the merchant to track the people who clicked your link
If they buy the product, you get a commission.
Pretty simple, right?

It can get much more advanced, but in this post we’re just going to start with the fundamentals and get you to the point where you’re ready to make your first commission.

How Does It Work?

There are a lot of different ways to track affiliates these days, but all are based off someone clicking your special tracking link.

The most common and basic type of tracking is via a cookie.

When the link is clicked, a small file called a cookie is stored on their computer letting the merchant know that if a sale is made, it came from you.

There are also more advanced methods based on the email used or IP address – but we won’t get into those here, we’ll stick to the basics.

How Do You Find a Product to Promote?

Here’s the thing, you can pick just about any product that you can buy online, and there will be an affiliate program that will pay you a finders fee for referring a sale.

However, just because you can promote anything, doesn’t mean you should.

The most important thing to consider when selecting a product to market is, “is it relevant to your audience?”

For instance, for me to try and advertise for dumbbells on Location 180 probably isn’t the smartest thing, because 99% of my audience could care less about them.

Note: If you happen to be in the market for dumbbells, feel free to go ahead and click that link and prove me wrong

However, for me to promote, say, WP Engine a WordPress hosting company – makes much more sense, since almost every one of my readers either has, or has considered starting a website.

When I’m trying to decide what to promote I always ask myself the following questions:

Do I use this product?
Will the vast majority of my readers benefit from using this product?
Is the buying process easy?
Is there a good affiliate commission? (Not always necessary)
If I answer yes to each of these questions, then it’s probably a good fit and worth promoting.

Action Item: Make a list of products that you use that you think your blog audience would benefit from using as well. Try to think of as many as you can.

Physical Products vs. Information Products vs. Services

Ok, you should have an idea of which products you might want to promote – now it’s time to decide which of those are the best fit for you and your audience.

There are three different types of things you can promote via affiliate marketing:

Physical Products
Information Products
Services
Each of these has pros and cons, and we’re going to look at those now.

Physical Products

Physical products are probably the easiest thing to promote for one reason, and one reason only: Amazon.

Amazon has the world’s largest affiliate program, and once you sign up, you can get a link for any product on the site, and earn a commission on it!

Pretty cool, right?

Well, yes and no.

Commissions on physical products are notoriously low, due to all of the factors that go into selling them (manufacturing, wholesaling, shipping, etc).

So you can earn a 4% commission on anything at Amazon. Once you’ve referred at least 7 items in a calendar month, your commission will bump up to 6%, then 6.5%, 7 up to a max of around 8.5%.

Even if you’re selling thousands of items a month, you’re still making less than a 10% commission. Because of this I know a ton of people who make a little bit of money off of Amazon, but few who make thousands.

Average Physical Product Commissions: 4-10%. Anything over 10% is very good.

How to Sign Up

Signing up for Amazon’s affiliate program is an excellent starting point, because the chances are good you already use Amazon, are familiar with it, and your readers are too

Why Affiliate Marketing is Better than Other Types of Blog Monetization

Most new bloggers assume that advertising or banner ads are the best way to monetize your site.

You couldn’t be more wrong.

They often get started with Adsense because it’s easy. To be honest I can’t remember the last time I saw an Adsense advertisement – thank you Adblock!

But seriously, not only will these make your site hideous, you have to have obscene amounts of traffic to actually make any real income.

Selling ad space to sponsors is almost as bad.

A good rule of thumb I’ve always used for how much you could sell ad space for is this:

Daily visitors divided by 10 is the dollar amount you can make per month on an ad.

Example:

If you get 1,000 visitors a day, you divide that by 10, and see that you can charge $100 a month for each ad on your site.

Now keep in mind this is just a rule of thumb, and depending on your niche it could be substantially higher or substantially lower.

If you’re just starting out, $100 a month could seem pretty good, but it takes a lot of work to get up t0 1k visitors a day – and if you get that many, you’re much better off monetizing via affiliate ads or ads for your own product.

See those Location Rebel ads over on the sidebar?

If someone clicks on that and buys my product I make $500 – 5 times more than I’d make for that sponsor ad. All I need is one every 5 months to make this a better option. Not only that, but it’s helping build my brand identity and reputation, rather than some random company.

Successful Promotion Strategies

Ok, now the most important part.

By now you should have a good sense of what affiliate marketing is, have an idea of what products you want to promote, and know how to get your affiliate links for them.

But if you don’t know how to properly promote them, it doesn’t really matter now does it? Nope.

In this section we’re going to look at some of the easiest and most successful ways to promote an affiliate offer.

The Resource Page

This is probably the easiest thing you can do right now to bring in a few sales over the coming weeks: create a resource page.

Regardless of what your business is, there are tools, products, and services that you use to run your blog or business. By putting together a page of all of your tools and resources, you’re creating something that’s sharable, as well as useful.
